26 weeks

It's the last week of my second trimester and time is flying! The first 13 weeks felt twice as long as the last 13 have . . . and if the next 13 double in speed again . . . she'll basically be here tomorrow!

Fun facts for this week:
Our baby is over 2 pounds and is about 15 inches long! Measurement is now from head to foot, rather than crown to rump like in the early kidney bean days.

She is wiggling around a lot, especially at night.

Her hearing is getting better, and her taste buds are quite developed! Apparently she can get the hiccups now, if the amniotic fluid tastes . . . hiccupy.

And speaking of eating . . . she's giving me heartburn! I've never had heartburn problems in the past, no matter how spicy or crazy the food. It started out as a little sensation late at night around week 20 and has since grown into an almost 24/7 deal. I wake up feeling good - and fortunately I don't have trouble sleeping - but as soon as I eat - whether I eat cereal, jalapenos, or smoothies I'm packing some heat in the throat! Oh well. I've been downing Tums and I've gotten some suggestions on other remedies as well. I'll survive!

Next, for your viewing pleasure . . .

for a fun comparison, check out week eight to see this same shirt without a 15 inch baby underneath!

We are sure getting excited for our little girl! Yesterday we picked out fabrics for a quilt Monta (McKay's mom) is making for us. We also decided what we want the blessing dress to look like and Monta is going to get cranking on that too. We got our first official baby gift from McKay's Mom's cousin - complicated, I know, but she's like an aunt to us. She's also a quilter and made us a really cute baby quilt. It's fun putting stuff in the nursery!! All we need now is a little dresser and I think we'll have the nursery covered . . . minus bedding . . . and paint . . . okay so just the furniture will be taken care of. It's a good start . . .

100 day countdown

As I write this, I am approximately six minutes away from the stroke of 12 . . . and the official 100th day until my due date! It seems like I should do something momentous to begin the countdown. A paper chain? Seems long. Spend $100 on clothes? fun, but probably not realistic. Make a list of 100 things to do before she's born? seems like a recipe for disappointment . . .

Something I would like to do before the baby comes is polish up a really cool piano piece I worked on back in high school but never really finished. I dusted it off this evening and remembered what a great piece it is. For those of you who are musically inclined, the piece is Variations Seriuses by Mendelssohn.

Check out a great old performance by Sviatoslav Richter:

Anyone have any fun countdown commemoration ideas?

pictures . . . finally!

Sue me . . . I've become a hit-and-miss blogger. Hopefully this is just a phase!

Okay, I'm 25 1/2 weeks and have 23 week and 25 week pictures to share.

blog slacker

guilty as charged.

Turns out the past two weeks have flown by without a blog post! Yikes. Sorry about that.

I'm 23 weeks (and 2 days) today! Our little squiggly is 8 1/2 inches long - as in standard letter size! I think an envelope is much easier to visualize than an ear of corn - which is this week's vegetable of description. Why random veggies, I wonder?

Anyway, she also weighs around a pound and a half - though I wouldn't be surprised if she's a bit ahead of schedule- it seems like there's a rock in my belly! And I've got 4 months and 6 or 7 more pounds of baby before she's here . . . wish me luck.

In other good news, I finally hit the jackpot with maternity clothes! Remember those jeans I wrote about a couple weeks ago? Well, they were good but only medium good. I just figured they were as good as I was going to get. But thanks to Ross (dress for less!) I found a pair of real, honest to goodness, perfect fit skinny jeans for just $13.99!! That's right - a fraction of the price of the other jeans (which I will be returning this afternoon). I got a few cute tops as well, for about 8 or 9 bucks each. What a relief! Affordable clothes that can help me out of this frump slump I've been in!

Now that we know she's a she the name game is back in full swing. And we're struggling. We go back and forth on names all the time. Whatever name you've heard as "the latest favorite" is probably out-dated and off our list (at least temporarily) by now. We have a current favorite but maybe I'll let it simmer for a few days before publicly adding it to our very volatile "list". Maybe we should do a prize giveaway or something for the person with the winning name suggestion! At least we have a few months to figure that out . . .

Pictures forthcoming!! Happy Friday
